High tension (arterial hypertension)
The high tension or arterial hypertension results in a rise in the blood pressure in the arterial network. This pressure measures of after two variables: the systolic tension, which corresponds to the pressure which it establishes in the vessels when the heart contracts, and the diastolic tension, which corresponds to the pressure at the time of the period of rest between two cardiac contractions. We are spoken; hypertension when it occurs a rise in one of these values or of both at the same time.
Introduction
A normal blood-pressure is at approximately 120 mm Hg (millimetres of mercury) for the systolic tension and at 80 mm Hg for the diastolic tension (120/80). From 140/90 mm Hg, the tension is too high.
So that we can pose a diagnosis of an arterial hypertension, the abnormal rise in the tension must be noted with approximately three recoveries, a few weeks or a few months interval. It should be noted that, in general, no symptom accompany the arterial hypertension. However, of the headaches located on the level of the nape of the neck and appearing very early the morning can sometimes be the indicating signs of a hypertension. Hypertension is divided into two categories: essential or primary hypertension, which doesn’t have generally a clearly identified cause (85% of the cases), and secondary hypertension, whose cause is usually well defined.
Which are the causes?
Essential or primary hypertension
Hereditary factors often present, to which it add worsening factors, such as the stress and obesity. So the stress involves an overproduction of adrenalin which causes a contraction of the blood-vessels, which increases the blood pressure further. As for obesity, it often increases the blood-pressure, but one is unaware of still the exact mechanism of it.
Secondary hypertension *renal attack (blocking of a renal artery or any other renal disease). *attack endocrinienne (gland suprarenal, thyroid). *catch of certain drugs (anti-inflammatory drugs, decongestifs).
Which is the treatment?
In a general way, hypertension is not cured, but it is possible to control it with helps of medicamentous treatment. The patient should not stop the treatment, because it is likely to return quickly at the initial stage. It is normal that one is obliged to take several types of drugs to come at the same time to an effective control of the blood-pressure
Essential or primary hypertension:
When the tension isn’t that slightly raised, the doctor will recommend to the patient to have a better food hygiene and to make physical exercise. It will be able to also suggest to him losing weight, if he judges that it is necessary. If the tension remains high, it will have recourse to a medicamentous treatment, which could be increased or decreased, according to the case. In the cases of marked hypertension, the doctor will found a medicamentous treatment of start.
Secondary hypertension:
By treating the causal affection, hypertension, by the fact, will be even controlled.
